01.26.10 Through The Eyes Of A First Timer

Below are the thoughts and observations of Grayson Sperry who is part of the relief team currently on the ground in Ft. Liberte.  This is Grayson’s first trip to Haiti.

There is so much to say.  I worked at the clinic today taking blood pressures.  I saw about 100 people and some were earthquake refugees. The one I remember most was a girl who will be two months old this week.  A man brought her in and wanted me to take her.  The girls mother was lost in the earthquake.  He said he had no place to keep her and he must go back to school in the DR.  We gave him all the formula we had and a leaky bottle.  All day he kept saying “will you help me, please take her”.  Please pray for this child.  After lunch we went to the hospital in Ft. Liberte.  There we saw a man who had his leg amputated and his arm was also in very bad shape.  We then saw another earthquake victim.  He was a second year student from the universtiy majoring in architecture.  After that we went to the UN headquarters, then took a ride on some motorcycles to a hotel outside of town.  The hotel has a swimming pool and is a nice place.  It could possibly house more people who wish to come could stay.  Also, we saw the Marines fly in today.  They came to Ft. Liberte to assess this area.
